Betty “Sweet Keys” Smith – Letha Hembree

Betty is a local Green River lady who lived it up in its hay day. She is extremely talented and could make a fortune anywhere else, but she won’t leave. Now she scrapes by and has become a bit of a smart ass. She is the mother of Marshal Smith.

Fannie Porter – Taylor Edwards

Porter was born in England and traveled to the United States around the age of one with her family. By age 15, she was working as a prostitute in San Antonio, Texas. By the age of 20, she had started her own brothel and became extremely popular for having a cordial and sincere attitude, choosing only the most attractive young women as her “girls”, her requiring that her “girls” practice good hygiene, and for maintaining an immaculate personal appearance.

Dora DuFran – Alyssa Bustle

Dora was born in Liverpool, England. An entertainer/prostitute and close friend of Calamity Jane, Dora was immensely successful at her career and later became the madam of several brothels. She was one of the wealthiest women of the old west. She is loved by all for her talent and joyful personality.

Hiya Lu Suyin – Amanda Sexton

A Hiya is a Chinese Imperial Bodyguard. Suyin is also a trusted confidant of the Empress and the only guard allowed to enter her residence, or in this case, Hotel. Suyin was a formidable combatant, but does not participate in battle anymore and serves as the head of security for the Empress. She still wears the ceremonial attire of the Hiya. Suyin is educated in many languages, including English.

Empress Dowager Cixi – Beverly Hammonds

Although she refused to adopt Western models of government, she supported technological and military reforms and the Self-Strengthening Movement. She never left China in real life, but she became friendly to foreigners and began to implement fiscal and institutional reforms that began to turn China into a constitutional monarchy. Her visit to the US is to celebrate the joining of the East and West. Unlike most Chinese women of the time, Cixi could read and write.

Calamity Jane – Chasity VanWinkle

An American frontierswoman and professional scout known for her claims of being an acquaintance of Wild Bill Hickok and fighting against Indians. She is said to have exhibited compassion to others, especially to the sick and needy. This facet of her character contrasted with her daredevil ways and helped to make her a noted frontier figure. She often wore men’s attire, and it is known that she was illiterate an itinerant alcoholic and an occasional prostitute. She spent the last years of her life working for her lifelong friend Dora DuFran.

Belle Starr – Charla Gilbert

The Bandit Queen, Belle Starr is a pretty as a picture, but deadlier than a rattlesnake. She ran with numerous gangs of which the most notable was Jessie James. She would kill without remorse and take anything she wanted.

Charles “Doc” Baggs – Gary Bowling

Called by some “King of the Con Men,” Charles Baggs is credited with inventing the fake gold brick swindle by selling the bricks to bank presidents. By turns, the populace was shocked or shaking with laughter at the outlandish activities of this king of the con men, who blandly boasted in the newspapers of his skill. Baggs is also remembered for the imposing iron safe in his office. It was actually made of wood, and folded to the size of a suitcase, but served its purpose: assuring the mark that the office was legitimate and financially sound. Charles is very likable, cool, and very convincing.

Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn – Lucas Slagle

Governor General of Canada and friend of President Grant. The Prince is a frequent visitor to the White House and represents not only Canadian interest, but works as an unofficial ambassador for his mother, Queen Victoria. He is well-liked among those who know him and shares Presidents Grants, often off-color, humor. As Victoria’s seventh born child and third son, he was not in line for the throne, but he was Victoria’s favorite child, which afforded him liberties the other children were not permitted, allowing him to have a worldlier outlook on people than typical stuffy British Royalty.

Ely Parker – Jonathan VanWinkle

Attorney, close friend, and advisor to President Grant. A Native American born on the Tonawanda Reservation in western New York State. By his teens, Ely’s English was so fluent he was used as an interpreter in Washington. President Polk used Ely as an attorney and to run petition campaigns. Parker tried to enlist in the Civil War, but was refused by the Army. The official reason given was that this was “an affair between white men”. With political help Ely was eventually enlisted and was put under Grant’s direct command. The two became great friends and it was Parker who drafted the surrender papers signed by General Lee. Parker stayed close to Grant and became the Commissioner of Indian Affairs.

Chen She – Bradley Powell

A former slave of the Imperial Palace, She escaped with Lin to the new world. He is a bit of a klutz and very jealous of Lin. He does not speak English.

President Ulysses S. Grant – Jace Kuecken

A prominent United States Army general during the American Civil War and elected as the 18th President of the United States in 1868. Grant is serious when the time is needed, but a heavy drinking dirty minded jokester when relaxed. His heart is pure and he believes in equality for all peoples.

Marshal Thomas Smith – Stuart Rose

First Marshal of Green River. Takes keeping the peace very serious. Does not like trouble and did not want the President crashing his little town.

Samuel Clemons – Matt Manning

The young Mark Twain is riding on the wave of success from his first novel and is quickly becoming famous. He loves stories about Western Expansion and wants to be a Promontory for the event. He is quick-witted beyond his years and stop-on-ready with a joke.

Cullen Baker – Micheal Soens

A Tennessee-born desperado whose gang is alleged to have killed hundreds of people including former slaves during the early days of the American Old West. He was a man of few words and quick with a pistol but preferred a double barrel shotgun.
