Spotlight Acting School is bringing straight plays back for students ages 9–14, starting with Bedbugs, a comedy by Leah Genuario.
In Bedbugs, Marie’s enthusiastic bouncing turns her bed into an earthquake zone for the tiny bugs who live there. From their point of view, Marie is the wicked witch. As the bugs argue over what to do, the story plays with perspective, empathy, and the choice between confrontation and conversation. With physical comedy and a flexible cast of 15 plus extras, the roughly 45-minute play gives young performers a lively ensemble story to explore.
The program is being renewed through a partnership with Berea College. Spotlight is pleased to be working with the college again. Berea College intern Jenny Morgan will direct the production, with Mr. Chad overseeing the work. Jenny will help students explore character development and expression as they bring their roles to life.
The support helping Spotlight bring the program back also means lower tuition for families. The three-month program would normally cost $105 per month at full tuition. After families complete the first two monthly payments, the final payment will be automatically credited. The one-third savings also applies to discounted tuition, and financial assistance remains available.
This return gives young actors ages 9–14 a chance to learn and perform through a straight play, with guidance from Jenny and Mr. Chad. We’re excited to welcome this new opportunity back to Spotlight.
