Puffs Opens at the Spotlight Playhouse: A Wizarding Comedy From the Back Row
Everybody knows the boy who lived. But what about the students who sat behind him in class, never picked for the big quest, and still showed up to magic school every morning? This August, the Spotlight Playhouse hands the spotlight to those kids.
Presented by Spotlight Acting School, Puffs runs August 14 through 23 at The Spotlight Playhouse, 214 Richmond Road in Berea. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
A story from the students in the background
Matt Cox’s comedy follows a band of well-meaning underdogs who make it through seven years at a certain school of magic while the famous hero commands the room. The play is a light comedic take on the familiar wizarding world, built around an ensemble of characters who are there because they have to be, and who have to find their own place in the story.
Spotlight is staging the Young Wizards Two Act version, the cut of the show that works for all audiences. That version keeps the fast, funny energy and the big ensemble shifts that give the piece its shape.
